Do you find it difficult to honor commitments to yourself? Especially during the holiday season? Achieving a goal (any goal) just gets pushed off a bit until January . . .
Recently I found myself thinking, “mmmmm, that chocolate cupcake looks so good – I can always restart my diet on Monday.”
Which led to “or maybe it would be better to restart my diet November 1st – it’s unrealistic to think I can resist those little tiny snack candies for Halloween?”
Which led to, “You are just setting yourself up for failure to think you can start a diet this close to Thanksgiving!”
Which – you guessed it – I then remembered all the scrumptious Christmas cookies that will be available in December . . .
So, somehow (in my brain) I turned eating one chocolate cupcake today into eating whatever I want until January 2nd!!
Thankfully – I was able to recognize this thinking – and create a different version for how I’d like my life to look over the next few months.
I also realized . . . I’m not alone. Many of my clients tend to put off “things” during the holiday season. They tend to lose momentum around the holidays – and find it more difficult to honor their commitments to themselves.
Do any of these statements resonate with you?
- “I have so much on my plate right now juggling family, career, and preparing for the holidays, I’ll go back to the gym in January?”
- “I know I have created great momentum in my business – but I just can’t possibly keep up this activity during the next month. I’ll refocus on my goals after the New Year.”
- “I know I’m on the right path . . . but . . . sometimes I just need help STAYING on the path! I’m really committed to completing this goal – but I sure could use a little encouragement!”
- “I have this really great idea – but just can’t seem to execute it! I created action steps . . . but my day-to-day life got in the way and I was unable to implement many of the steps.”
- “I just feel so overwhelmed, overworked, and out-of-balance – how can I start to regain some ‘me’ time?”
Because I recognize that maintaining momentum during the holidays is important and difficult – I created the 30 Day A.W.E. Inspired Challenge.
I recognize that sometimes we all need a little external accountability and support – I created the 30 Day A.W.E. Inspired Challenge.

Hi, I’m giving feedback you asked for in Blog Formatting. I think this is a great challenge and very doable. I will say, that when I read the words above your video, I thought it was a weight loss challenge…then, when I read under your video, I realized it is much more than that. It encompasses staying motivated to work through any goal, not just healthy eating. You may want to explain that right out of the gate, as people who don’t struggle with eating right may not join. I hope this helps! :)
Deanna –
I sooooooooo appreciate your feedback! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will certainly consider adapting the first part of the post. You are right on the money when you state this challenge is for any goal!
Lisa
Ah yes many of those sound familiar :) … I love this idea so have signed up :)
Kama –
Glad to have you! Be sure to request admittance to the Facebook group also.
Lisa
Hi Lisa – Like Deanna – I too thought this was a Weight Loss challenge – LOL I related to the eating one more chocolate part. So having read your reply I think you could make the objective of the challenge even clearer by just stating what it is. Hope this helps.
Caroline –
Thanks for the feedback! I added a paragraph to the beginning of the post which I hope clarifies my purpose!
Lisa
snickering….this sounds like a conversation that I had today…probably made most of those statements.Great ideal.

Oh how I wish the chocolate cupcake was a made up scenario! :)
Lisa
It’s like you know me so well! I’ve already put off my diet until after the holiday season (yikes!) I can so resonate with that cupcake thought. Thanks for sharing Lisa!

Lisa
Thank you Lisa for a great post. Of course I did recognize myself! Even though it is easy to postpone a lot of things to a more convenient time – like to after the holidays – I also like the new start that New Years brings. It’s a great time to evaluate and restart. What I will start to do right away is to have a thought of my goals and get started with some affirmations. Hope that helps for now.
Hi Eva –
Thanks for the comment! I do like the idea of restarting at the beginning of the year! It’s a great time to evaluate what worked, what didn’t, and where I want to go next! Using the next few weeks to get clear on your goals and start creating some affirmations is a fabulous way to get prepared for your new start! I appreciate your sharing!
Lisa
Awareness is everything. As we approach the end of the year, it’s always good to reflect back and look at the things that you’ve accomplished. Use those experiences and head in the right direction for the new year. Thanks for sharing!
Nate
Thanks for commenting! I agree . . . the new year is a great time to build awareness. I love taking November and December to really push forward, so when January I feel like I have both momentum and a sense of newness!
Lisa
Sounds inspiring! And, I do live the idea of evaluating what works! Fun info, thank you :)
