Do you find, like most of us, that some days you are “more on your game” than others? You can’t be efficient and productive every single day, can you? Do you say, “I have all the willpower I need. I can tap into it anytime I want. I am the master of my domain.”?

The amount of willpower (or, motivation) you have each day and throughout the day varies.

When you find yourself sliding back into “bad habits” (eating poorly, procrastinating, a LOT of social media, etc. ) it isn’t that you are undisciplined, it’s that your willpower is low.

Think of willpower as a battery. The more you use it, the weaker it becomes. But, once you charge the battery, you have more willpower again.

The key – keep your battery charged.

How can you charge your battery?

Write a list. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.

  • Baking
  • Sleeping
  • Reading
  • Meditating
  • Exercising
  • Yoga
  • Being in nature
  • Watching a romantic comedy
  • Laughing with friends
  • Coloring
  • Taking a 5 minute break each hour
  • Drinking 8 ounces of water each hour
  • Stretching for 5 minutes each hour

Next – schedule time (actually block the time off in your calendar) to do an activity to recharge your battery and raise your willpower level. Some of these activities can be lengthy, others can be quick. Provide yourself a variety – then implement!

Finally – evaluate your progress. Do you find your willpower slipping at certain times of the day? Do certain activities charge your battery longer than others? Do certain activities drain your battery quicker than others? The more awareness you have, the better equipped you are to excel in your day-to-day life.

Follow these steps to staying “charged” and you will feel more energetic, productive, motivated and fulfilled – each and every day.
