You love your business. But every once in a while you get frustrated, overwhelmed, and tired.
You are one person – yet it feels like you are doing the work of 3 (or 4 or 5). It’s hard when you wear ALL the hats…even if you’re good at delegating!
And the joy you had when you first started your business . . . well, it just isn’t as strong anymore.
Here’s the deal – just because you own the business doesn’t mean you need to own ALL the tasks.
Doing only the work you love and staying in your Zone of Genius can be challenging – there really IS a lot of work to get done! The solution to the “too much to do, not enough time” challenge is to master the skill of effectively delegating.
So what exactly is your Zone of Genius (ZOG)? It’s your sweet spot, the place where you can make the biggest difference in the world.
Your Zone of Genius is the intersection of these 3 places:
- What you are uniquely gifted at doing
- What you love doing
- What creates income
These are the activities YOU do . . . everything else can be delegated.
When you are doing tasks that only match up with 1 or 2 of these criteria, you enter the burnout zone. The more time you spend in the burnout zone, the more joy leaks out . . . and the more tired, frustrated, and overwhelmed you feel.
But when you stay in your ZOG and encourage your staff to stay in theirs, you’ll find your company’s productivity will increase. You can get more done in less time, doing what you love to do!
Here’s how:
List your strengths, tasks that you are uniquely gifted at doing, that you love doing, and that make you money.
List your staff’s strengths (THEIR Zones of Genius). To effectively delegate, match tasks that are not in your ZOG to their Zones of Genius.
Create processes to delegate all the tasks that are not in your Zone of Genius, and you’ll find that you’re focused on those tasks that really drive your business forward. Once you have a strong process, you won’t need to reinvent the wheel each time you delegate.
